I'm presently visiting Berlin for the first time for a one week course.
I thought that was a good enough excuse to start a thread and put my newly acquired enigma skills to use.
Please keep your replies in the EWCG2018 format!
[EWCG2018] (I notice the February code sheet I dowloaded from the EWCG website uses rotors up to VIII or 8... I'm thus using the Kriegsmarine M3 UKW-B) 2100 1tle 1tle HFO ACQ FVEGL
OK, that puts me offtrack... How am I supposed to use rotors above V (5) with the wehrmacht M3? I thought the [EWCG2018] was for that machine... :/ In fact, I used the January 25th file to decrypt a message in the Weather Code thread earlier and, since it used only rotors up to V, it worked perfectly.
I am using the Enigma Simulator v7.0.6 on my computer.
Any help welcome!
EDIT: I should add that what really throws me off is that the codesheets use letters for the strecker board but on the kriegsmarine model 3 the strecker board has numbers instead of letters.

Hello morlock and welcome to EWCG
I believe you have Dirk's emulator and that's a good one.
when you open the cover to select the rotor click on the letter B or C in the upper top left side, this will allow to select different configurations
"Welcome Newbies and Useful Links" is a post with a lot of useful links
regards

I am indeed using Dirk's emulator. I have also read the Welcome Newbies links and followed the encryption and decryption procedures to sucessfully decrypt quite a few of the old Newletter messages and send an successful encrypted message to Bruce Culp (of EWCG).
What trips me is that I am expecting a wehrmacht M3 to be used but in the simulator this version has only V available rotors. The Kriegsmarine has more rotors but uses numbers for the strecker board, so I am puzzled that none of the M3 machines on the simulator seem to fit the [EWGC2018] codesheets found at the download link in the Welcome Newbies message.
I guess I need a little help debugging this.

In the simulator, in the plugboard part, if you click on the "unused holes" (the little rivet holes with no letters/numbers next to it) on the left or right side of the board, it will cycle between alphabet and numbers, making it easier to setup.

I never knew that about the emulator, any other Easter eggs you may know about

Not really..maybe this When using the Wehrmacht Enigma where the wheels have only numbers, if you click (cover closed) on the left wheel, a cheatsheet with A=1, B=2....shows up. But you probably already knew this. You can see this alphabet/number reminder on the pics posted by morlock above . It is the last line in the "users manual" screwed inside the lid. Glad I could help
