This message can't be decrypted using the settings set out by Mauser (see below). The Triton tables can be found here: enigmaworldcodegroup.freeforums.net/thread/164/welcome-newbies-useful-links
Would very much appreciate any information that may assist with decryption. some time has been spent on a number of combinations without any luck.
Message #3
Now for a much more difficult challenge. During the war, the Kriegsmarine used a much
more involved set of procedures to send and receive messages from the U-Boat fleet. From
Fleet HQ to the U-Boats, messages were generally sent using a “long hand” procedure.
From U-Boats to HQ used a “short hand” procedure called the Kurzsignale. When you look
at the Advanced Procedures on the website, you will not find that, yet. It will be added in
2019. For now, to read this “long hand” message, you will need the following:
Enigma M4 Keys TRITON 2018, November
Bigram Tables 2018
Kenngruppenbuch
Marinefunknameliste U-Boat
MGK 2126/06 004 51
JBBD KQLL JVFC IMZC MYIK BLWX ZFUY KBXL FLUN DZDY CPXQ QANA HPCX
BOQJ WTJZ QFVR LSOY VLDL XCGT RWUG AHTO GSIC VNZE SHIJ SMJF ZWIT
VBEB SWGN MUCC PUWG TKBT CBGG VDMY WFXX QROF CUIS PICI DBKH VZIF
USZM PXJI HHKV WMXC DOIP OPKT WPVQ DXPX FCRD NXGJ JBBD KQLL
Questions:
1. What U-Boat?
2. How many torpedoes?
3. Name of the target ship?

Before I give this the flick, does anyone have any idea about the correct settings or does it go the way of most queries. 🤨

I don't have the settings anymore, but I've been able to decrypt the message. What are the steps you have taken?

I’ll do the same, hoping that I can retrace my steps. If not I have the decrypted message. But the fun part is the decrypting. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me. Or send me an email.
P.s I live in the Netherlands UTC +2.

ZZ9pZa: JBBD KQLL goes to XQUO DZPK However, one of QUO or DZP should be from a bold section of a page. QUO is the first non-bold of page 305 (Triton). DZP is from page 86. Leaving that aside, we should now use Nov 6 settings (based on the message header) Nov 6 settings: C Gamma V VIII I F T E H 1/2 3/24 4/17 5/10 6/21 9/16 11/19 12/13 14/25 18/22 Z S A C With those and DZPK from the bigrams, we get message the key ROGI. Which doesn't decrypt to anything.

I have again followed the advanced procedure as I understand it and feel confident with the process. I have rechecked the tables for Nov 2018 and can only conclude that I am using the wrong reference tables (including K Book) although have tried alternatives. So, the above posted by nilatcb is where I left off. Very curious to see outcome.

I think you are using the wrong documents. During 2018 there where several versions of documents used on the forum. Using these documents:
Gives you the results as below for November 6th
GEHEIM! Schlussel M [TRITON][FLK] November 2018 Schlusseltafeln M - Allgemein| ZEF | 6 | B | Gamma VI IV VIII | | | | | C O Z F | |ZEF | 6 | 1/8 2/16 3/5 6/7 9/10 11/14 12/26 17/19 20/23 21/25 | E N U T | In het Kenngruppenbuch we look to see which bigram table we should use. November 6th gives us Bigram I Take the first 8 letters from the message an convert them using the bigram table I JB ---> J D BD ---> D H KQ ---> R V LL ---> X T I think you can decrypt the message now. If not please let me know, also if you succeeded.

Thank you. I have now decoded the msg: torpedoes, Cairo and of course change of all settings including incorrect bigram table and now new transposed message key. I am going back to 2018 Triton dateset just to see precisely where Mauser's message led me to such confusion. Again thanks and a good one example for newbies to look at.🙂

The documents we used were the ones listed in enigmaworldcodegroup.freeforums.net/thread/164/welcome-newbies-useful-links2019 seems way better organized than 2018. 2018 had a couple of Triton and bigrams, no Hydra in the 2018 Dropbox and so on.
As a side note, if you look at the link of the attachments in your post, it's enigmaworldcodegroup.freeforums.net/attachment/download/116. The attachments posted on the welcome thread have 78, 79 and 80 as index. I tried all numbers from 1 to 101, didn't think to go higher. The last valid one was 96, office to officer. I should probably write a small web crawler and search, index and put them in one single location. Thank you for your help.
