I was wondering about some way to get some more activity in this forum. I hope I'm not out of line here but a friend suggested an enigma challenge and I figured I can (depending on interest) do a monthly enigma challenge that you need to use some enigma knowledge/skills to do. What you need: An enigma: To even read the challenge you need some kind of enigma and since very few of us are rich enough to have a real enigma we need something cheaper. On internet it is many enigma simulators that can be used. One to download is at www.enigmaworldcodegroup.com/#!download-enigma-simulator/cq2m. An online version I like to use is at people.physik.hu-berlin.de/~palloks/js/enigma/enigma-u_v20_en.html. A keysetting: The codebook used for this message can be found at enigmaworldcodegroup.freeforums.net/thread/55/optional-2016-ewcg-codebook. Model to use is M3 with UKW B Instructions: The procedure to decrypt is at www.enigmaworldcodegroup.com/#!encrypting-a-message/cg0k but to understand it better you may have to start with encrypting a message at www.enigmaworldcodegroup.com/#!create-an-enigma-message/c1lth **************************************************************** Enigma challenge March 2016. Here is an enigma encrypted challenge that is very easy for anyone interested in enigma. Please post your enigma encrypted answer below, lets see how many answers we can get. If there is interest I will post another challenge next month. [EWCG2016] RMY IXG BPZKE BJBYM CRMHT TQDRF TYMLQ RDJBA XISJW AEKFG MYODT URFFD ULXVC QHWHE KNZYX RNLWA JJMD

So, one (correct) answer so far. I have one more ready for next month but if I don't get more answers it will probably not be a third one.

With the machine setup to decode the message and the keys still valid for the day, it was just too tempting not to submit a reply...
Keep up the posts, remember:
If you build it, they will come...

fra366 That is a correct decode of the question, but you need to read it carefully. Try decoding mine, it was sent back the same day, thus it uses the same machine settings, just a different message key. Now that you are familiar with the decoding process, why don't you try sending a coded message, just remember to use the key for the current day. With the correct message indicator, we will figure it out though. Good having you here.

Above is the coded message I promised yesterday that I would post today. I am not sure of the proper format for the forum. Since this is my first message to post I tried to follow the example of the other posts.
Nothing to fancy for my first one just something simple. I believe the full name was Alan Mathison Turing. Nice twist on the wording....lol.

As for the challenge, I asked for the answers to be encrypted so anyone reading this thread have to figure it out for them self. Only two answers, hope it will be more next month. I will make that challenge a little harder.

Do not use BIT DRI for the above......use BIT JNM. Caught the mistake after I posted.

I'll be giving it a try. I think my mentor was lost on a Unter boot. Stand by to copy.

This is me. Thanks for suggesting a great idea! I need lots of practice. My error-ridden tries caused my mentor to surrender. kevinburt37 (at) yahoo.com

Greetings all. I am new to the group after being made aware by Arduino Enigma in a twitter reply to me. I was able to decode this March message using EWCG2016 codesheets and my Android Enigma Simulator app v 1.14. Great fun! I've been interested in finding a group to encode/decode with. I hope to engage more soon when I have time. I will try to post some encoded messages as well.
