Dear Code Group Friends,
For the ones that are interested in enigma puzzles and a little DIY.
One of my other hobbies is Geocaching. (GPS supported "Treasure hunt")
Information about geocaching
There are so called puzzle caches where you need to solve all kinds of puzzles to find the cache.
One that I stumbled across is about a mysterious ninth rotor for the enigma.
I thought I share this one with you all. (see link below)
So anyone who's interested can give it a go.
Dachbodenfund !
Dachbodenfund! (Google translate)
As well from different sources (usually Wikipedia) known or gave There are various models of the Enigma decoding machine.
For each of these Enigma models using different rolls.
I remember that my grandfather often spoke of a ENIGMA M3.
So one, as she used the German navy, one with 8 rotors.
Sometimes he also talked about the German resistance and then by the ENIGMA M3
9 reel. Well, my grandfather was already very old and I thought that he as only something slips up.
Now I have my mother helped entrümplen the old attic.
In one corner was a very dusty box. The case dated back of my grandfather.
In this case it actually was an Enigma M3, completely preserved, with all 8 rollers and plugs, a real treasure.
Even a black notebook was there, with some records and references, such as "Encryption method as Wehrmacht". 2 encrypted radio messages
I have also found. Even 2 key sheets from 1942 were there!
One was Winder Stand 42 and on the other walze 9
Since I remembered the old stories my grandfather.
So I sat down and began the radio messages to the former method of the Armed Forces to decipher and initially had printed only for a radiogram success.
But the information was in it already great enough!
Then it became difficult!
