Hello all, I am new to the Group and will get started by posting a link U-505 Decrypts to a set of decrypted U-505 messages from my U-boat Archive website. These decrypts were copied at the US National Archives in College Park MD. There are similar sets for most U-boats filed under the U-boat number. Cryptology historian/researcher Mr. Ralph Erskine helped in understanding the format of these documents (the date/time, group count, circuit, frequency etc.). This is the form in which the decrypted messages were delivered to the users at the Operational Intelligence Center COMINCH in Washington DC. I have translated the war diaries (KTB's) of all of U-505'5 war patrols. You can compare the decrypts with the KTB for U-505's last two patrols at U-505 10th Patrol and U-505 11th and 12 Patrols Thanks to Bruce for his work in setting up the Forum and I look forward to exchanging information and a message or two. Best regards, Jerry

Tried to reach your decrypts but that link is dead now, looked around but didn't find U505 messages anywhere else on your site. Did find some logs translated to english and started reading them, found it interesting how they did the patrol, how long they where submerged and so. Have to read more to get a clearer picture but from what I understood earlier a UBoat was more of a surface boat that could dive as in it was normally cruising on the surface and did only dive when needed. The log at uboatarchive.net/KTB505-11.htm from around new year 1944 indicates that they did dive more than I thought and also gives an interesting insight to what being on patrol was.
